Rocío - Spanish Teacher

Rocío from Rocío Spanish lessons by the sea in Casares Costa

My name is Rocío Irías, born and raised in La Línea de la Concepción, and now living in beautiful Casares Costa in the province of Málaga.

I have a degree in Tourism from the University of Cadiz and two years of Psychology at the UNED. I have worked for more than 15 years in customer service in tourism companies. I have a C1 in English from Cambridge and I speak English fluently, so I know perfectly well what it means to learn a language from scratch. In January 2020 I finished my training as a TEACHER OF SPANISH FOR FOREIGNERS at International House. Since then, I have been teaching Spanish in person and online to students of different ages, nationalities and levels.

I am also an official examiner for the DELE exams (accredited by the Instituto Cervantes). I am very passionate about the Spanish language, our art, our culture, our gastronomy and our idiosyncrasy. In my classes I like to practice empathy and that is why I adapt to the needs of each student and I enjoy preparing dynamic materials that help the student to progress in a fun and enjoyable way.

I have been teaching Spanish as a profession for more than four years and I can say that I have found my ‘ikigai’, my purpose in life. I feel alive and I feel fulfilled teaching my native language, sharing music in Spanish with my students, commenting on current affairs and seeing the progress of my students.

I firmly believe in the power of words as a healing weapon, but for that it is necessary to know and use language well, so I must say that I am a bit of a ‘geek’ in my fight against spelling mistakes ;-)

What I love

My great passion is music; I sing and play the ukulele and I am a great consumer of music, especially singer-songwriters and flamenco.

I also love the beach, yoga, sunrises and sunsets, spending time with my friends and laughing at life and myself.

As a dreamer, I always tell my students that my favourite word in Spanish is OJALÁ. Because for me it gives me the option to dream of other worlds, other ways of life, different possibilities and to keep walking, learning and growing at the same time.

I think that one of my talents is that I love contact with people. I love to discover the soul behind each person and I am of the opinion that everyone has something to teach us.
